   We are pleased that

90 % went to
      repeat buyers.

A bull represents 50% of your calf crop and a very significant investment. We have done a breeding soundness examination both from a semen quality and a physiological standpoint. The bulls will perform as satisfactory potential breeders.

Excessive use of young bulls can deplete    semen reserves. Use yearlings at a
          1:15 to 1:20 ratio.
Limit breeding season of young bulls to
             60-70 days.

Feed young bulls a quality ration during the fall and winter to continue their development and assure longevity.

Ultrasound information for bulls selling is
included in the catalog.

I will have carcass EPD’s available sale day
on the bulls with them.

One should pay closer attention to EPD’s
for desired traits rather than an individuals
own numbers. They have proven to be 9 times
more accurate in predicting progeny differences in all categories.

    The Charolais Breed Average EPD’S

Cattlemen:

Thank you for opening the 2008 edition of Runft and Associates bull sale catalog. Several of these bulls are prospects for purebred herds and especially for those of you keeping F1 females. The quality and type are excellent even if the sale day weights vary. We are short of numbers this year because of a low percentage of male calves last spring and severe culling.
Mr. Hale decided to keep his bulls in Missouri and other consigners who had expressed interest in being part of the sale failed to follow thru.  I have been feeding the Strnad and Lewis bulls since the first of January and they are coming along quite nicely after facing less than ideal feeding conditions in Wellington (mud). The EPD’s are indicative of their genetic potential. The sales I observed this winter showed the demand for well-cared-for Charolais is as good or often better than the black hided animals. I think this is due partially the fact that Char-crosses are identifiable as to at least 50% of their genetic background. I also believe it is due to the genetics purchased at our sales.
Dr. Kristy Kern of Sun Valley Embryo Transfer performed the unltrsound work and David Jensen of Hawkeye Breeders in Iowa Semen checked the bulls.  This was done Feb.22. Scrotal sizes are of that date. Calves less 320 day of age do not get their ultrasound data adjusted for age. I will include their actual data in the catalog indicated by (*). The adjustments for marbling are positive for younger cattle and of course ribeye area will increase with age to the standard 365 days. My opinion is that ribeye area per 100 # body with will not change much if any.
We look forward to seeing you March 31. If there is any way we can be of assistance, please ask! The standard first year soundness and manageability guarantees still apply.

Thank You for considering our bulls

                                          Myron
